Bid to find promising poets
new festive season competition for youngsters

PRIMARY youngsters at Banff and Macduff are being encouraged to demonstrate their poetic skills for a new festive season competition.
Banff and Macduff Christmas Lights Association has launched a contest to find one winner from among the pupils at both primaries.
The best budding poet will receive a £20 voucher and the satisfaction of being the first winner of a new competition.
Association treasurer John Mackie said: “The theme of the competition is Christmas and there are no restrictions on form or length.
“If the contest is a success, the winners in future years will be invited to switch on the festive lights locally.”
Mr Mackie, who writes poetry, will judge the entries with other association office-bearers.
He said: “In my letter to the schools asking for entries, I have written a short poem called Christmas Lights in the hope that will stimulate some ideas.”
The closing date for entries is Friday, December 12, and they must be either posted to or handed in at The Coffee Pot, 13 High Street, Banff.
This year’s winner will not be known in time to help with the festive lights switch-on which is due to take place on Sunday, November 30.
