Wonderful world of wireless
exhibition traces history of radio technology
Published:
AN EXHIBITION showing how radio technology changed north-east lives opens in Aberdeen today.
Wireless, on display at Aberdeen Maritime Museum on Shiprow, traces the history of radio in the north-east from the 1920s until now.
Around 50 items, including 80-year-old radio equipment, can be seen while a BBC-produced audio documentary on the history of radio in Aberdeen plays in the background.
The collection includes early crystal radio sets, transistor radios from the 1950s and a JVC Videosphere from the 1970s.
Exhibition curator Jenny Brown said: “The exhibition features some remarkable radios and televisions and there is sure to be something for everyone. We are also keen to hear from anyone who has a story or has items relating to radios, televisions or broadcasting in Aberdeen which we could add to the collection.”
The free exhibition can be viewed from 10am-5pm from Tuesdays to Saturdays and from noon-3pm on Sundays until March 1.
