An Aberdeenshire primary school held a Pudsey pyjama party yesterday to raise money for Children in Need.

Teachers and more than 370 pupils at Crombie School, Westhill, took part in the event to raise money for the annual BBC charity bash.

Staff and students were not the only ones to swap their normal attire, as the pupils brought their teddy bears, which also received the dressing-up treatment.

Teacher Jackie Maguire said the children had to pay a minimum of 50p to dress up for the day, although many donated much more.

She added: “I don’t know how much we’ll raise, but it’s got to be a few hundred pounds.”

Meanwhile, pupils at Aboyne Academy, which celebrated 20 years of supporting Children in Need yesterday, hoped to raise at least £2,000 to reach a target of £65,000 over the period.

Aboyne head teacher Raymond Jowett was confident the school would reach the target, raised through ticket sales to a talent show which has been running all week, donations to dress up and a collection yesterday.

“There are a lot of creative, spectacular dressing-up costumes,” he added.
