Elementary mistakes of our poorest away game so far
Published:
THIS feels like a defeat – but we didn’t deserve anything else.
If you play as badly as we did in the first half, when you can’t pass from A to B, then you are going to have a problem.
You tend to get found out in those situations and that’s what happened to us later in the game as we gave away a goal in the last 10 seconds.
It has been the story of our season. We went 2-0 ahead and the game should be finished at this level.
Playing against the Old Firm might be a wee bit different, but this game should have been finished once Zander Diamond made it 2-0.
I was always worried Hibs would come back at us as we passed the ball so poorly. Easter Road is a hard venue to come to, but when you are 2-0 ahead and then 2-1 ahead with 10 seconds to go, you are thinking of victory.
Instead of getting into a defensive position, Sone Aluko was still thinking of counterattacking when Hibs were awarded a corner.
Had we cleared the ball it would have been game over, but Aluko found himself on the wrong side of John Rankin, who had the shot in the build-up. You wonder what is going on inside their heads sometimes.
We could have had a penalty if Sone had gone down under the challenge in the box. He kept going and could have gone around the goalkeeper, but right now I wish he had gone down.
This has been our poorest away game this season in the league. We missed Darren Mackie in the second half as he creates so many problems down the flanks with his pace, but he is suffering from a hamstring injury and we didn’t want to take any risks.
It is even more disappointing when you hear the results elsewhere. We are still up there, but we could been closer.
I wonder how many more times we are going to get chances like this.
