Nissan Cube goes global

Published:

IN 2002, an all-new second-generation Nissan Cube was introduced in the Japanese market. It was more spacious inside, with more glass outside and more power – and, more importantly, with a few more angles and curved surface details added to its compact, slab-sided exterior. Quintessentially Japanese, this new Cube took Tokyo by storm.

Now, more than 10 years since its original appearance, the Nissan Cube is ready to go global next year in an all-new, dramatically rethought third-generation design that is clever, quirky and functional – and still totally square.

The Cube features an asymmetrical body, with wide headlights and grille contrasting with the small, but substantial, body proportions and the short “tail” section. In the rear, the bar-type tail-lights reinforce the wide, anchored feel.

Inside, the Cube’s designers have gone for a “casual lounge” feel, with the inclusion of a “lounge sofa” style sliding rear bench seat. There is also a large sunroof, giving a light and airy atmosphere.

In Europe, the Cube will be available with both 1.5-litre diesel and 1.6-litre petrol engines. More details will be made available closer to the car’s release date next year.
