Alford authors on track again
Sisters pen new volume – and provide lunch for rail team
Published:
TWO north-east sisters who have penned a number of children’s books marked the next chapter in the series by helping out at the railway line which provides inspiration for the tales.
Jennifer and Hester Dunn have captivated children and adults alike with their James the Locomotive stories – inspired by the little train that runs on the Alford Valley Railway near their Donside home.
This week they went line-side to provide lunches to volunteers repairing the popular little railway. Former head teacher Jennifer, 64, and retired radiographer Hester, 59, cooked meals at their Parkhill Road home and delivered to them to the workers at the railway. The three-day operation to fix the line started on Thursday.
It will be completed this weekend in time for the popular Santa Special services which features decorated trains running to Haughton Park and back.
Jennifer and Hester’s latest book in the collection is titled James and The Golfers which Jennifer called the “best yet”. “It has been a joy doing them all, and we are looking forward to continuing the series.”
The tiny locomotive in the series was named after Alford Valley railway founder and director, James Gordon, 82.
Previous books include Here Comes James, James and the Bonnie Black Railway Cat, and James and the Lost Whistle. Their latest book is available from local shops or can be purchased online from www.jamesthegordontrain.co.uk.
