Estate has big plans for ancient palace site
A FAMILY-OWNED north-east estate hopes to stabilise the ruins of a mediaeval bishop’s palace and open it to the public in an ambitious new development plan.
The owners of Fetternear Estate, near Kemnay, also want to create a visitor centre and shop at the palace, build 77 houses and restore farm steadings to use as a training centre.
Plans to build a leisure centre, allotment gardens and a cyclist and pedestrian bridge across the Don linking Kemnay to the estate are also included in the proposal, which has been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council.
