Darren Gray, of Grindibrek, admitted having the drug on him at Staney Hill on August 14 when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday. Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the 28 year old was stopped by police and searched, with officers recovering 41ml of the class A substance. Defence agent Tommy Allan said his client had a long-standing addiction to drugs and had been on a methadone prescription. However, Gray was taken off it because he had missed appointments, leading the 28 -year-old to attempt to source it himself. Sheriff Philip Mann said while it is “difficult to kick the demon drug”, the law must be adhered to.
