Guardians star Dave Bautista ‘too big’ for some roles

Guardians Of The Galaxy star Dave Bautista has told how he sometimes loses out on roles because he is “too big” for them.

The former wrestler, 49, is known for his muscly physique but said his size can be “distracting”.

Discussing his training regime, Bautista said: “It’s something that I couldn’t do without – training and being physical, which is a part of my character.

“So hopefully that will pay off in the long run, but sometimes it hurts because I’ve stepped into roles or stepped into auditions for roles where I’m just too big, I’m just too muscular, it doesn’t work.

“And admittedly it doesn’t work because I even notice it sometimes, that my size, it’s distracting.

“But it’s just who I am, I don’t train to be this way, it’s just something that’s a side effect of who I am.”

The actor stars in new action film Final Score, about an ex-soldier who has to rely on his military skills to save the crowd at a football match from a group of criminals.

He said: “It was just my first opportunity to play that action hero.

“I thought it was an interesting premise. When I first talked to the producers about it, they likened it to Die Hard which I loved, and they weren’t afraid to liken it to Die Hard, and I loved that as well, because it really is.

“We like to compare it to Die Hard in a football stadium, that’s how we describe it and I think that’s true.

“And I kind of own that, I’m proud of that.

“I was just looking out for that real action role but also that character that wasn’t completely invincible, that had a heart.”

Final Score is released in cinemas on Friday September 7.
