Radio station CCTV scoured in the mystery of the missing pies

When his posh pies went missing from a radio station fridge a presenter emailed colleagues to find out who had taken them, then contacted the HR department for help, another DJ has said.

CCTV images will be checked to find out what happened to the four £4 pies bought from a farmers’ market in Guildford by an unnamed male Heart Radio presenter, it was said.

Toby Tarrant, DJing on Heart’s sister station Radio X, laughed as he read out the “livid” pie owners’ email to colleagues.

Tarrant, sitting in for Chris Moyles on the breakfast show, told listeners it said: “Dear all, has anyone seen my pie?

“That may seem like an idea for a children’s book but it’s a genuine question. I bought four pies on Tuesday and I put them in the fridge.”

The presenter found one had gone – despite his name being on the packaging – then found another had gone missing the next day.

The irate owner said the pies should be warmed in the oven so the culprit could have become ill and called in sick.

He then offered a “chicken and ham-nesty” to whoever took them to own up by 4pm – but Tarrant said no-one replied.

A follow-up email on Thursday, which started “Now come on”, then revealed the remaining two pies had also been scoffed, depriving his family of “£16 of quality pastry action”.

Tarrant said the presenter took the case up with security and asked if CCTV of the area could be checked.

He was told that would require the backing of the HR department, Tarrant said, which he has now received.

Tarrant claimed: “Management have got involved and they are going to investigate it.

“I am told from my sources that the presenter is absolutely fuming.

“Presumably they are going to pore over the tapes at some point today and they are going to finger the pie thief.”

A Radio X spokesman said: “We wouldn’t comment on an internal matter, but we also don’t want to give the story any more filling.”
