Sir Elton John’s mother has been laid to rest in a “perfect” funeral, the singer has said.
Sheila Farebrother died aged 92 in December, shortly after she and her son had rekindled their relationship following a years-long feud.
In an emotional Instagram post, Sir Elton revealed that Mrs Farebrother had been remembered with a family service while also paying tribute to her.
He wrote: “Dear Mum, today’s funeral was perfect.
“Having the service in the family chapel and attended by your brother and sister brought us all comfort. Having the service where Nan lived out her final days brought you and your Mother back together again.
“Tomorrow your friends will gather separately to say their good byes. I’ve chosen all the music so everything will be just right.”
He added: “Thank-you for bringing me into the world and for all that you have done for me. Love, Elton #RIP.”
Along with his message, the 70-year-old music star shared a picture of a plaque bearing his mother’s name.
Sir Elton had revealed his mother’s death in a social media post last month.
He told of his “shock” after having seen her the previous week, and added: “Travel safe Mum. Thank-you for everything. I will miss you so much.”
Earlier this year the singer-songwriter revealed he was speaking with his mother again when he paid tribute to her on America’s Mother’s Day in May, sharing a photo and writing: “Dear Mum, Happy Mother’s Day!
“So happy we are back in touch. Love, Elton xo.”
In an interview in March 2015 Mrs Farebrother said that her son “hated” her, and told the Daily Mail that their rift had started over a “petty” argument when he asked her to cut ties with two of her oldest friends, who had also been part of his early success, Bob Halley and John Reid.
