Ant and Dec reach television awards with seconds to spare after traffic woes

Ant and Dec arrived at the National Television Awards with just minutes to spare as the TV duo’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! was handed the prize for best challenge show.

The pair – who are also hoping to collect the NTA for best presenters for the 17th year in a row – nearly missed their victory speech after being caught in traffic.

All eyes were on the duo as they aim to continue their winning streak, in their first public appearance since Ant McPartlin revealed he is splitting from his wife.

But the Britain’s Got Talent presenters nearly missed the ceremony altogether as the hosts revealed they had been stuck in traffic on the way to the ceremony and were forced to watch the opening on an iPad.

Dec wrote on their joint Twitter account: “Ooh the #NTAs have started and we’re in a traffic jam. We’re watching it on an iPad tho. Nice opening! D.”

After a fan asked how far away they were they replied: “It’s taken an hour and 3/4 to do 8 miles! We’re less than a mile away but chocka. Hopefully there in 5…”

Earlier they said they were “racing from film set” to the ceremony at London’s O2 Arena and joked they were “hoping we get there before the end”.

They face competition from The Chase host Bradley Walsh and This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield in the best presenter category and bookies have tipped them to succeed again, with William Hill offering odds of 1/10 that they will take the title.

The Geordie duo are also nominated for the inaugural Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award.

Ahh, back where we belong! A #BGT #blackpool #backinthewings
