This Morning’s Willoughby and Schofield battle hangovers after NTAs win

This Morning presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield joked about their struggle presenting the programme the morning after their win at the National Television Awards.

The duo – who two years ago hosted the ITV daytime show in the same clothes they had worn to the ceremony after partying all night – did not repeat their actions after taking the daytime award for the eighth time.

However, at the start of the episode, a message appeared on the screen joking that the presenters had not yet arrived to work.

The message apologised “for the disruption” and that they were “working hard to fix the issue”.

Second later, Willoughby and Schofield smashed through a paper sign clutching their NTA award before thanking viewers for their support.

Schofield said of the night before: “We had such a laugh. It was fantastic. My voice has gone down about an octave but other than that, I think we’re more or less intact.”

Willoughby said that she “might read the autocue with one eye shut” throughout the broadcast, and added that the pair “didn’t get much sleep”.

She also told viewers that she had already consumed a full English breakfast and pizza in the morning to help her get through it as she took hold of a bacon sandwich crafted by the show’s resident chef Phil Vickery.

Later during the show, the hosting duo pretended to fall asleep on the sofa.

Other TV stars shared their hangover woes the morning after the NTAs, including The Chase host Bradley Walsh, who looked under the weather in his first ever Instagram picture, and Michelle Heaton, who told followers on Instagram that she was “headbanging away the hangover” while on the school run with her children.

Some of the winners at the awards show took to social media to share their gratitude.

Ant and Dec celebrated their 17th consecutive TV presenter win with a post on Twitter.

The duo, who also won the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award for Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, wrote: “THANK YOU!!! To each and everyone of you who voted. We are very emotional tonight. You never let us down #NationalTelevisionAwards.”

Coronation Street actress Lucy Fallon, who won the serial drama performance prize, tweeted: I don’t have any words to express how I feel right now… in my hotel room with some pasta and my @T_Leech … thank you so much. I love you all more than you could ever know xxxx.”

David Walliams, who won the prize for TV judge, teased his Britain’s Got Talent co-star Simon Cowell.

Along with a picture of himself holding his award, Walliams wrote: “Hi @SimonCowell I thought you might like to see this…”
