Melanie Sykes lands charity Bake Off win with Frida Kahlo cake

Melanie Sykes has celebrated her win in The Great Celebrity Bake Off, saying it has “broken a pattern of not winning.”

The TV star triumphed in the fourth episode of The Great British Bake Off, in aid of Stand Up To Cancer.

She said: “It has taken 47 years to win something. Hopefully I will be on a roll now.”

She was named winner of the episode after impressing the judges with her peanut butter blondies, her win in the technical challenge and her showstopping cake in the shape of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, with hidden sweets in the centre.

However, Bake Off fans were left astonished when judge Paul Hollywood said he had not heard of the painter, despite going to art school.

One wrote: “Paul Hollywood “went to art school” but has never heard of Frida Kahlo… seriously?”

Another said: “Paul’s not heard of Frida Kahlo? And he went to art school???? Seriously?”

Paul Hollywood hasn’t heard of Frida Kahlo and honestly that’s the last straw.

I’m shook Paul Hollywood has no idea who Frida Kahlo was even though he went to art school?!?

The charity series continues next Tuesday on Channel 4.
