Linda Robson has said she believes she was on her way to becoming an alcoholic when she was drinking a bottle of wine a night.

The Birds Of A Feather star said she reassured herself she did not have a problem by not starting to drink until after 10pm but her children feared how she would cope without wine while in the Australian jungle filming I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here in 2012.

She told ITV’s Loose Women: “I thought waiting til 10pm, sometimes 10.15pm, meant I didn’t have a problem so when I was going into the jungle, the kids were going ‘What are you going to do mum? You won’t be able to have any wine, you will go cold turkey’.

“When you get to the jungle, wine is the last thing on your mind. There are so many other things to worry about!

“But looking back now I do think maybe I could have been on the way to being an alcoholic because a bottle of wine every night is quite a lot.

“My big thing was because I didn’t drink in the daytime then I didn’t have a problem and I could make myself wait until that time every night so I obviously didn’t have a problem.

“But looking back now, I feel so much better for it. But I was still functioning, I was still coming into work.”

Robson added: “I never had a hangover but my husband used to say to me ‘You’re just topping up what you had the night before’.”

Her fellow panellist Nadia Sawalha also spoke about her experiences with alcohol saying: “I used to be such a heavy drinker, I am embarrassed at how much I used to drink.

“When I think about my friends that are still drinking that same amount, a bottle of wine a night, I would worry about any friend that is drinking a bottle of wine every night.

“Or every night coming in and the first thing you do is pop open a bottle of wine, that means whatever is going on with your day you are only dealing with it with alcohol and that is never healthy, is it?”
