Constance Wu says she is “grateful” after her sitcom was renewed – despite earlier causing confusion by tweeting she was “so upset”.

The Crazy Rich Asians actress stars in TV comedy Fresh Off The Boat, which was picked up for a sixth season by US TV network ABC.

While her fellow cast members shared their delight on social media, Wu, who has starred on the show since 2015, tweeted: “So upset right now that I’m literally crying. Ugh. F***.”

The 37-year-old followed it by tweeting: “F****** hell.”

When a user congratulated her on the renewal, describing it as “great news”, Wu replied: “No it’s not.”

However, Wu has now clarified her comments, saying they were “ill-timed” and not regarding the show.

She said: “Todays tweets were on the heels of rough day&were ill timed w/the news of the show. Plz know, Im so grateful for FOTB renewal.

“I love the cast&crew. Im proud to be a part of it. For all the fans support, thank u & for all who support my casual use of the word f***-thank u too.”

Fresh Off The Boat debuted in 2015 and is loosely based on a book of the same name by chef Eddie Huang.
