Johnstons Saturday girl starts new “adventure” with the firm

Hannah Swann first worked for Johnstons of Elgin as a Saturday girl when she was just 16.

From the start she was a fan of the company, but her focus then was on school and getting the grades to go to university.

Little did she know that eight years on she would find herself a part of the Johnstons family once again.

But now aged 24 – after five years studying in Edinburgh and a year in France – she has helped to launch the firm’s first flagship store in London.

At the official opening yesterday, she said she could not believe how things had turned out.

“It’s strange how fate works out. It was my first job and now I’m beginning another adventure with them down here,” she added.

“This is where I wanted to end up and to work for a company I’m so passionate about is really exciting.

“I’m really passionate about the quality that we have to offer. With us, there’s a sense of history.

“To do the whole process all under one roof is a big accomplishment.”

Ms Swann, who studied humanities and social sciences, was born and brought up in Elgin, where her parents still live.

But she moved to London six weeks ago after running into Jenny Houldsworth when she got back from France.

That led to a job at the pop-up store in Selfridges and ultimately a post as sales consultant in the New Bond Street shop.

She said: “I hope to progress and develop within the company. My family are very excited.

“I have got two older sisters and a younger brother, but I’m the furthest afield at the moment.”
