A Limousin cross heifer named Donna Pie was crowned champion at the Caithness Livestock Centre’s Christmas show and sale yesterday.
The 14-month-old beast, which weighed 625kg, was put forward by James Sutherland of Borrowston Mains, Thurso.
Placed prime cattle champion by pre-sale show judge Aileen Ingram, of East Comalegy, Drumblade, Huntly, Donna Pie went on to sell for £2,800 to Murray Lamont of Mackays Hotel in Wick.
The mart at Quoybrae, which is run by Aberdeen and Northern Marts, also staged a prime cattle contest for young farmers.
The top title in this section went to a 20-month-old Limousin cross heifer, weighing 630kg, from Colin Mackay of Hillhead, Lybster.
Mr Mackay’s champion sold for £1,800 to Liam Gunn of CLB Ltd, on behalf of Dingwall butchers J. M. Munro Ltd.
In the prime lambs section, the champion rosettes went to Messrs Sutherland, Sibmister and Stainland Farms, Thurso.
The pair of Texel lambs weighed 48kg each and sold for £220 a head to Murray Lamont of Mackays Hotel in Wick.
