Farmers from across Scotland gathered in Perth last week for the 34th annual Yara Farmers Curling Competition.

The contest, which took place at the city’s Dewars Centre, attracted entries from 72 teams from the length and breadth of Scotland.

It was once again organised by retired Yara area manager, Alan ‘Woodie’ Wood, who has agreed to facilitate next year’s contest again.

Spectators enjoyed watching two fiercely fought contests in the finals of both the high road and low road sections at the close of the week-long competition on Friday night.

Leading the charge and winning the high road final, which came down to the last stone in an extra end, was a team skipped by Sandy Reid of Carnoustie with a score of four shots to three.

This was the first time Mr Reid’s team have won the competition, having played together for the past three years.

The other team members were: Stuart Stark of Abernyte, Perthshire; John Dunn of Scone, Perthshire; and Hamish Robertson of Friockheim, Angus.

The runner-up in the high road section was a team skipped by Roy McGregor of Auchterarder. His team-mates were Andrew Bayne, Peter McLaren and Adam Haggart.

In the low road section the champion title went to a team skipped by Graham Prentice of Burrelton, Perthshire. The team comprised: Gordon Stark, Graham Reid and Ewan Stark.

The final result – four-two – was decided by a measure.

Runner-up in the low road was a team comprising Duncan McFadzean, Roddy Thomson, Duncan McGregor and George McFadzean.

The highest placed ladies team comprised: Kerry Clark, Susan Kesley, Fran Stretton and Maggie Barry.
