It was ladies’ day at Tarland Show on Saturday with the champion and reserve interbreed titles in both the beef and sheep sections going to female entries.

Leading the charge in the beef ring was the leader from the cross section – 15-month-old Charolais cross heifer Gold Rush.

Put forward by Blair Duffton and Rebecca Stuart of Huntly and Insch, she was bought in Dungannon, Northern Ireland for £3,200.

Prior to her Tarland Show success, she stood supreme Scottish beef champion at the Keith Show, champion of champions at Fetterciarn, reserve overall at Echt and Banchory, and commercial champion at New Deer, Turriff, the Black Isle and Keith.

The reserve beef interbreed title went to the winner from the Charolais section.

This was home-bred two-year-old in-calf heifer Lagavaich Lucy from Billy and Gay Wright at Lagavaich, Glenlivet.

By the AI sire Inverlochy Ferdie and out of Kelton Finesse, she previously stood champion at Keith and Turriff and reserve at Angus.

In the sheep lines, the top title went to a Blackface gimmer from Gemma McIntosh and Charlie McIntyre of Upper Croft Na Garn, Boat of Garten.

Their multi-show winning gimmer was bought at Highland Sheep from Archie MacGregor of Allanfauld, Kilsyth. She is aptly named DFS as Mr McIntyre used money set aside to buy a sofa to pay for her.

By a £35,000 Dalchirla and out of an £11,000 Auldhouseburn, she was reserve champion of champions at Sutherland, reserve interbreed champion at Keith and crofters’ champion at the Black Isle.

This was home-bred Beltex ewe lamb Muldearie Candy from Gary Morrison, Bush of Muldearie, Keith.
