New breed record in sale ring for Aberdeen-Angus at Stirling Bull Sales

What is believed to be a new breed record for a maiden heifer was achieved in the Aberdeen-Angus sale ring at the Stirling Bull Sales.

The 20,000gn bid was paid for 22-month-old Cheeklaw Pru in the dispersal of the Lucas family’s Cheeklaw herd in Duns, Berwickshire. By Cardona Proud Punch, she sold to the Decogans at Killanuckey Farm, Co Cork, Ireland.

Another 20,000gn bid was achieved for Pru’s mother – Cheeklaw Proud N449. By Haymount Wavestar, out of Cheeklaw Petrina, she sold having run with Balmachie Lord Jock. She sold to K. McOscar, Island Farm, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

Next best at 15,000gn was five-year-old Cheeklaw Black Bitzy, by Easton Greys Joseph Eric and out of Cheeklaw Black Bess. She sold, having run with Balmachie Lord Jock, to Brailes Livestock, Isalyn, Upper Brailes, Oxfordshire.

Meanwhile, in the main Aberdeen-Angus sale a top price of 17,000gn was paid for the overall champion.

Put forward by the trustees of the Late Gordon R. Brooke at Upper Huntlywood Farm, Earlston, Berwickshire, Linton Gilbertines President sold to Gordon Gray from Sunnycroft, Lindean, Selkirk and Caroline Orr from Halbeath Farms, Dunfermline.

The overall Aberdeen-Angus champion goes through the ring.

President is a March 2016-born AI son of Netherallan Peter Pershore, out of Belhaven Pole Star. Another Linton Gilbertines bull, put forward as a late entry, sold for 8,000gn to Caroline Orr.

Next best at 11,000gn was the reserve overall champion, April 2016-born McCornick Destroyer from Martin McCornick, Boreland, Kirkcowan, Newton Stewart. By Halbeath Pentagon and out of McCornick Duchess, he sold to Spain.

Thereafter 6,500gn was paid for March-2016 born Logie Lawyer from AJR Farms, Milton of Collieston, Ellon. By Rawburn Enoch and out of Logie Lavender, he sold to the Crawfurds at Craigenholly, Glenluce.

Other leading prices included: 6,200gn for Blelack Evorats from the Massie family at Aboyne, selling to A.W. Neish, Redwood Farm, Wiltshire; 6,000gn for Kilmaluag Lord Island from Skye breeder Donald Rankin, selling to the Coghill’s at Muce, Birsay, Orkney; and 6,000gn for Inkstack Eros from the Tait family at Barrock, Thurso, selling to the Muirs at Chapelston.

In all 37 bulls sold to average £5,063.
