Limousins met a good steady trade at the Stirling Bull Sales yesterday with a top price of 13,000gn paid for the intermediate champion.
Averages were up £712 on last year’s fixture with 62 bulls selling to average £5,814 and a clearance rate of 82%.
British Limousin Cattle Society chief executive Iain Kerr hailed a successful day in the sale ring.
He said: “It was a really solid uniform show of commercial bulls. It was quite obvious that those kind of scopey bulls with good tops were very easily sold. It’s more than coincidental that the bulls that were selling well had really good calving figures.”
The top price was paid for May 2016-born Dyke Macbeth from Jimmy and Donald MacGregor at Dyke Farm, Milton of Campsie, Glasgow.
By Netherhall Gilbert, and out of Dyke Florette, he sold to R. Dunlop and Son, Pinvalley Farm, Girvan.
Thereafter two lots sold for 10,000gn, the first being the overall champion from Bruce Goldie, Townfoot, Mouswald, Dumfries.
April 2016-born Goldies Black Manhattan, by Goldies Fortress and out of Goldies Dalmation, sold to John Elliot, Roxburgh Mains, Kelso.
The other lot at 10,000gn was August 2016-born Creran Mourinho from Ewen MacGillivray, Home Farm, Barcaldine, Oban.
This AI son of Powerful Irish, out of Lodge Iccolo, sold to D. Fisher Contracting Limited, Groan Farm, Logiealmond.
The next best price of 9,500gn was paid twice.
First at this price was April 2016-born Ronick Material from the Dick family at Mains of Throsk Farm, Stirling. By Stephick Hero and out of Ronick Fatella, he sold to Carr Farms in Northampton.
The other entry at 9,500gn was June 2016-born Hollyberry Marius from A. and V. Brown and Sons, Swallow Cottage, Station Road, Foggathorpe, Selby.
An AI son of Ronick Hawk, out of Whinfellpark Gazeful, he sold to T. Lang, Parduvine, Rosewell.
Other leading prices included 9,000gn for June 2016-born Walkers Mandit from father and daughter duo Gordon and Elspeth Walker, Easterside, Dunnottar, Stonehaven.
By Allanfauld Gazza, and out of Walkers Hereclissa, he sold to Huntlyhill Farms, Huntlyhill Mains, Lanark.
Another at 9,000gn was June 2016-born Burnbank McCoy from Dougie and Lynda Graham, Mains of Burnbank Farm, Blairdrummond, Stirling.
This AI son of Cloughhead Umpire, out of Burnbank Clover, sold to A. and E. Grant, Glendamph, Glenisla, Perthshire.
The MacGregors at Dyke also achieved 8,500gn selling May 2016-born Dyke Magical, by Dyke Gandalf, to A. and R. Paton, Easter Greenhill, Avonbridge, Falkirk.
