Scots breeders lead the charge at online sales

Scottish breeders led the charge at Harrison and Hetherington’s (H&H) online timed auction of Badgerface Texel sheep.

The sale topped at £2,450 for a February-born ewe lamb – Tamtain Betty Boo by a Sunnybank sire – and her recipient dam from John and Briony MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth. They sold to Messrs Hogan, Bennekerry, Ireland.

Next best at £1,600 was a pair of March-born twin lambs and their recipient dam from Aberdeen breeder Stuart Wood at Woolhillock Croft, Skene. The outfit, which included ram lamb Woodies Bruiser, and ewe lamb, Woodies Bumble Bee, sold to Messrs Millar, Kirtlebridge, Lockerbie.

Next best at £1,500 was March 2019-born ewe hogg Hunters Aurora, by an imported Ingst sire, from the Hunter family at West Cairnhill, Culsalmond, Insch. She sold to Messrs Flett, Harray, Orkney.

The Badgerface Texel averages were: pedigree ewes with lambs, five, £970; recipients with pedigree lambs, four, £1,342.50, and empty ewe hoggs, three, £1,333.33.

Meanwhile, H&H’s online timed auction of Beltex sheep topped at £4,300 for January 2019-born ewe hogg Withy Trees Eden from Preston breeders Andrew and Claire Wood. An embryo-bred daughter of the 5,000gn Withy Trees Copper Mountain, she sold to Messrs Hall, Skipton, North Yorkshire.

Next best at £3,000 was a March-born embryo ewe lamb – Aviemore Fabienne 2 by Bailey Brook CR7 – and her recipient dam from Turriff breeders Bruce and Colin Mair. They sold to Gordon Harrison for his Gordy’s Flock near Carnwath, Lanark.

Other leading prices included £2,450 for a pair of January-born embryo ewe lambs and their recipient dam from Stuart Wood at Woolhillock Croft. The lambs are by the 10,000gn Ryder DIY and the outfit sold to Messrs Delves & Co, Montgomery, Powys, Wales.

The Beltex averages were: pedigree ewes with lambs, four, £1,005; recipient ewes with lambs, 11, £1,923.63, and empty ewe hoggs, 24, £1,191.87.

H&H’s online sale of Texels topped at £4,100 for a February 2019-born gimmer, by Garngour Bullet, from the MacGregors at Allanfauld, selling to Messrs Coates, Country Durham.

The Texel averages were one recipient with lamb at £500 and 11 empty ewe hoggs at £1,161.45.
