Online training for Scots farming ambassadors

The deadline for applications is June 30.
The deadline for applications is June 30.

Farmers are invited to apply to take part in a new ambassador programme.

Soil Association Scotland (Sas) is inviting applications for the programme, being run in partnership with UK organic body the Soil Association, which offers training to those who want to use video to tell their nature- and climate-friendly farming story.

Sas will offer eight Scottish farmers a day’s online training and one-to-one sessions on how to shoot and edit a video on their phone or tablet, and advice on what makes a good story and how to tell it.

“During the pandemic we have seen people becoming increasingly interested in where their food comes from,” said Sas director Aoife Behan.

“It seems we’re more interested than ever in food that is good for us, good for nature and good for the environment.

“We want to shine a light on those farmers that are doing brilliant work to produce nature-friendly food by helping them tell their story.”

Ayrshire dairy farmer Bryce Cunningham, who has been using social media to promote his Mossgiel farm, encouraged farmers to apply for the Sas ambassador programme.

He said: “As farmers we haven’t been great at telling our stories to the public and we need to step out of our comfort zone. I truly hope the benefit of Covid is that people appreciate what’s being grown and produced on their doorstep.”
