Average of £5,260 for Angus bulls at Stirling Bull Sales

A five-figure sum was paid nine times for Aberdeen-Angus bulls at the Stirling Bull Sales this week.

A clearance rate of 64% was achieved with 109 out of 170 bulls selling to an average of £5,260.

In February 2014, a clearance rate of 73% was achieved when 82 bulls sold to a record average of £6,107.

A top price of 13,000gn was paid for the junior and reserve overall champion from Willie McLaren, his son William and grand daughter Seonaid at Netherton, Blackford.

Netherton Kelso is an embryo transfer out of Netherton Karama and by the 36,000gn The Moss Mr Eshton.

He heads south to a new breeder – Anthony Irwin, Moonlight Hollow Ltd, Colchester, Essex.

The next best price of 12,000gn was paid for the reserve junior champion from north-east breeders Neil and Graham Massie who farm at Blelack, Dinnet, Aboyne.

Blelack Dynamite is an embryo transfer out of Ballyheather Dolly and by Netherallan Peter Pershore.

He was bought by John Fleming at Castle Sinniness, Stairhaven, Newton Stewart.

The Massies, who put forward the pre-sale show champion Blelack Evangelist which sold for 7,000gn, also got a five-figure sum for a second-prize winning bull.

Blelack Explosion is another embryo transfer by the same sire as the 12,000gn beast, but this time out of Blelack Evora.

He sold for 10,000gn to Colin Davidson, Skaill Farm, Sandwick, Orkney.

The hammer went down twice at 11,000gn.

First up, was the only bull put forward by Alan and Steven Lawson who run the Hallington herd near Newcastle.

Hallington Jack Eric, which is by Hallington Evo and out of Hallington Jubilee Erica, sold to Northern Irish farmer Johnny Doyle at Cookstown.

The other at this price was a lot from Tom and Jack Arnott at Haymount, Kelso.

Haymount Gastessa is by Skaill Darkness and out of Haymount Gastara. He sold to William Glazebrook of Laigh Crewburn Farm, Strathaven, Lanarkshire.

A price of 10,000gn was achieved four more times, with two out of the four beasts destined for the north and north-east.

Angela McGregor of Auchenhuive Farm, Whiterashes, paid 10,000gn for Haymount Geigesso from Tom and Jack Arnott.

And Haughton Prime Minister from Whittaker & Co Farms in Northumberland, heads to P.S. Johnston, Brockan, Stromness, Orkney.
