Twenty seven finalists were today named for a high-profile event honouring north-east business excellence, entrepreneurial behaviour and outstanding community contributions.
Organisers of the Elevator Awards 2017 described the task of selecting the shortlist from a “great show of high calibre entries” as “extremely tough.”
Aberdeen-based business support group Elevator said the response to this year’s awards was “especially encouraging in the current climate.”
Elevator chief executive Gary McEwan said: “We have had 11 applications for the spirit of enterprise award, which is quite exceptional given that it celebrates the achievements of successful business owners who have overcome significant obstacles.
“There were also more than 30 applications for the most promising new business, looking at the success of businesses under a year old.
“It was a very difficult task to choose just 27 finalists out of what was a very competitive field and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to submit an application as we really do appreciate how busy they all are.”
Previously known as the Grampian Awards for Business Excellence, the honours are now in their 18th year.
The winners, including the area’s 2017 entrepreneur of the year, will be announced at a black-tie ceremony at the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel on Thursday, June 29. Writer, TV personality and former MP, Gyles Brandreth will host the event.
Finalists:
Business success over three years – Aberdeen Sports Village, Matrix Risk Control and SBP Accountants and Tax Advisors.
Business success under three years – Rebecca Carr Hair Salon, Step Change Engineering Ltd and Tekserv.
Emerging entrepreneur of the year – Gregor Mackintosh of Mackintosh of Glendaveny, Stuart Lawson of AISUS Offshore and Christopher Farman of Jack’s Steakhouse.
Employer of the year – Acumen Accountants and Advisors, Cammach Recruitment Ltd and Hall Morrice LLP.
Enterprising communities award – Banchory and District Initiative Limited, Crow House Projects and Me Too!
Most promising new business -Esker Spirits, Fierce Beer and The Unit Gym and Fitness.
Spirit of enterprise – Arizona Brodie of Mango Bay, Naz Hussain of Breakneck Comedy and William Lawson of Bobs Buddies.
The Grampian award for Innovation – RigDeluge, Aiken Group and DDK Positioning.
Entrepreneurial supporter of the Year – Karen Stewart, Chris Minchin and Ann Johnston.
