Oil and gas stalwart Deirdre Michie is being recognised as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours for her services to the industry.

The chief executive of trade body Oil & Gas UK (OGUK) said she felt “very pleased and very humbled” when she found out she was to be made an OBE.

Ms Michie has headed up the group since 2015 and has extensive experience as a senior business leader in the oil and gas industry covering upstream, downstream and globally.

She is a member of MER UK – a government and industry forum – and is also on the UK Treasury’s Oil Industry Fiscal Forum.

The mother-of-two is also a board member of Opportunity North East (One) and a member of the Women’s Business Council – a UK Government body focused on increasing women’s contribution to economic growth.

She said she was looking forward to receiving the award, which she dedicated to her team.

She said: “I feel the award is really a reflection of the team that works with me. We have a small but really committed team at Oil and Gas UK which punches above its weight a lot of the time. There have been some tough times for the industry but the team has been great in always ensuring we can deliver.”

OGUK is the leading representative body for the UK offshore oil and gas industry. It is a not-for-profit organisation, established in April that speaks for the whole sector.
