Shinty star wins six-figure laundry contract

A firm started by a famous shinty player has secured a six figure contract with one of the biggest care providers in the north of Scotland.

Thain Electrical, owned by Kingussie forward Kevin Thain, has negotiated an arrangement to provide laundry solutions and service to all care homes in Scotland run by the Parklands Group.

The partnership will be extended to include the award-winning group’s new £3.5million home in Grantown on Spey, which received planning permission last winter.

Laundry requirements are also being assessed for the group’s proposed new 40-bed home in Fortrose, which was lodged with planners last week and is expected to be open by late 2016.

The deal is understood to be one of Thain Electrical’s most significant and underlines the continued rise of the group established by the international sportsman in 1996.

The Aviemore-based company has been tasked to fit Miele-brand professional laundry equipment in all of Parklands’ seven care homes across Buckie, Tain, Keith, Muir of Ord and Aberlour.

News of the deal follows on from Thain Group’s recent move to a bigger home for its Central Belt operation in Cumbernauld, the creation of two new jobs, and further office and storage developments at its Kingussie site.

Mr Thain said: “The Parklands Group is a major employer in the north, with further development plans in the pipeline to meet the big demand for private care across the highlands.

“All the group’s care homes are 5-star facilities and, because they are committed to high standards for residents, they are prepared to invest in equipment that will give them the best results over the longer term. They are a benchmark for private care in Scotland and we are proud of our long-standing relationship.”

Elaine McIntosh, operations director at Parklands, said:“We have worked with Thain Electrical for many years and like to stay with partners when it works well for us,” she said.

“The Miele laundry systems we have installed across all of our homes give capacity, reliability and, with The Care Inspectorate focusing next year on infection control, it is important these requirements are taken care of.”

Thain Group has developed significant partnerships across the care sector in recent times, with contracts in place with private groups, Thistle Healthcare, Northcare and Abbotsford Group.

The company started out with its founder and a work van 19 years ago in Aviemore and now employs 17 staff across Scotland.
