An energy industry logistics company has packed two more pledges into the Press and Journal’s Apprentice 100 campaign.
Bosses at Aberdeen-based 80:20 Procurement Services, and parent company Peterson, will find room for a duo of trainee warehouse operatives in support of our mission to boost employment prospects for talented youngsters.
The successful candidates will learn the ins and outs of warehousing while completing an SVQ in logistics operations with external assessment provided by ITCA Training.
First and foremost, they will be expected to unpack and process items that come into and leave the warehouse to make sure they fit the correct description and meet customer requirements.
Once the recruits are up to speed with 80:20’s way of working, they will go on to work at Peterson as part of a strategy aimed at further integrating staff members across the two businesses.
Mandi Dorward, UK business manager of 80:20, said it will be the first time the firm has hired warehouse apprentices since being taken over by Peterson in 2012.
She said: “Investing in young people is essential to support the growth of our company and we are committed to identifying new talent within the industry and providing opportunities for them.

Peterson and 80:20 already employ apprentices in areas other than warehousing.
Hayley Birnie said she was surprised to have taken such a shine to working as a trainee in 80:20’s accounts team, given that she disliked studying maths in school.
The 19-year-old, from Peterhead, said the role had helped her significantly improve her problem solving and communication skills.
Chris Carter, 18, who is completing a business and admin qualification while working as a trainee freight coordinator at Peterson, said the company has high expectations of its staff.
“Peterson is a really good company to work for. There are a lot of benefits and they are nice people,” he said, adding: “You’ve got to be able to work under pressure. There are deadlines to make and last minute jobs you have to make happen.”
