The first Shetland Business Week gets under way next Saturday.

A new event focusing on enterprise in the Shetland islands gets under way next week.

The first Shetland Business Week, running from February 25 to March 4, will include free workshops, seminars, and panel discussions on a range of topics, as well as networking events.

It is being run by development agency Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), Business Gateway Shetland and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) in conjunction with Shetland Islands Council.

The organisers say themes covered during the week will include Scotland’s economy, use of Shetland dialect branding, developing young people, social media, collaborative working and digital marketing

David Priest, development manager at HIE, said: “Shetland Business Week is looking great.

“We hope to have an informative, engaging and interesting week for businesses and for anyone interested in starting a business, or just looking to improve their business knowledge and get up to date.”

Neil Henderson, project manager at Shetland Islands Council said the range of events during the week showed the level of support available for businesses on the islands.

He said: “A large number of support initiatives are available for many aspects of developing a business, from starting out for the first time to improving efficiency, marketing, taking on new talent or moving a business in a new direction.

“The number and variety of free events on offer within Shetland Business Week demonstrates the strength of the support available to local businesses and offers the opportunity for people to come along and talk to each other, make new contacts or exchange ideas.”

Further details on events during Shetland Business Week are available online.
