Aberdeen Sports Village is expecting to bring more than £2million to the local economy this year while it hosts a number of high-profile sporting competitions.
The first of this year’s events was the Scottish National Age Groups Swimming Championships, which took place at the end of March.
With 1000 swimmers from more than 90 clubs across Scotland participating in the event at the Linksfield Road facility’s aquatics centre it brought in £1m for the Granite City.
Netball Europe subsequently came to ASV from Thursday May 11 to Sunday May 14 with eight nternational teams – Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Bermuda, Gibraltar, Israel and the Republic of Ireland – competing in a sold-out arena.
Next month, ASV hosts the British Masters and Senior Age Group Championships, which will feature 800 swimmers from across the UK.
The final major event is the Scottish National Open Swimming Championship between June 27 and July 2.
Duncan Sinclair, the village’s chief executive said: “ASV has been able to attract these national and international competitions by working closely with VisitAberdeenshire, Scottish Swimming and Netball Scotland.
“VisitAberdeenshire has calculated the swimming and netball events alone will bring an estimated £2million in financial benefit to Aberdeen, proving that leisure and tourism activities are a vital part of our local economy.”
