An entrepreneurial north-east duo aim to spruce up more Scottish workplaces with their 50-strong team after a management buyout (MBO) from industrial and commercial cleaning company Ecocleen.
Andrew Alleway – previously director for Scotland at Oxfordshire-based Ecocleen – and business partner David Moncur have re-launched their business under a new name, Tidy Green Clean (TGC).
The firm is based in Aberdeen, with Mr Alleway heading up the operation in Pitsruan Place. Mr Moncur works out of Dundee.
Clients include businesses such as Stork, Blackadders and PB Devco.
Turnover has increased by 460% over the past two years, with £150,000 generated in the first 12 months and £840,000 in 2016/17.
As well as the company’s commercial cleaning division, TGC’s security and facilities management services are expected to contribute towards business growth.
TGC’s co-founders acquired the business for an undisclosed sum and are now looking to develop it into a franchise model. They are targeting 200 franchisees over the next five years.
The MBO saw all 50 staff in Scotland transfer from Ecocleen to TGC.
Mr Alleway, managing director, said: “This is a really exciting time … as we take a successful national business into full Scottish ownership. We have ambitious plans for expansion across the country.
“Ecocleen was very successful in Scotland and we want to reinforce that, whilst the name and ownership have changed, … Tidy Green Clean is still the same people and under the same management.
The firm’s Australia, New Zealand and US-educated MD has a bit of a track record of franchising, having previously helped to run a commercial cleaning business in New Zealand.
Before that, he had a spell as general manager of Basketball New Zealand – conducting a rebrand and working on a franchise restructuring of the country’s National Basketball League.
