The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has announced a series of events to help people, whether FSB members or not, prepare for looming changes to data protection law.
It comes after FSB research found about two thirds (68%) of small businesses had recently either not started or were only in the early stages of preparation for the new General Data Protection Regulations.
The tour, which will visit Tulloch Caledonian Stadium in Inverness at 11am on Wednesday May 9 and the Carmelite Hotel in Aberdeen from 6.30pm-9pm later the same day, will allow businesses to hear from experts on GDPR as the rule change deadline (May 25) nears.
Denis Pinto, area leader for the FSB in the north-east said: “GDPR is the largest shake-up of data protection laws in years.
“It’s clear from the discussions we’ve been having with businesses that more needs to be done to ensure necessary steps are taken before the law changes.
“While we are calling for businesses to do more by attending information sessions such as the one we’ve organised in Aberdeen, it is also critical that the Information Commissioners Office, which will be responsible for enforcement, manages non-compliance in a light-touch manner, with the focus being on education and support and not punishment.”
