Firms and organisations in the north and north-east have been named among the contenders for the Scottish Environment Business awards, known as the Vibes.

Proterra Energy, of Inverness, is short-listed in the water innovation category, with Fort William’s Wildcat Cafe and Oban-based Xanthella selected in the small and medium-sized enterprise management and innovation sections respectively. Renewable Parts, of Lochgilphead, is among five finalists for the circular economy award.

All four Highland firms are also in the running for best micro business.

Aberdeen City Council is a finalist in the adaption to climate change category, with TechnipFMC named in the large business management section.

The Royal Zoological Society Scotland, which runs Highland Wildlife Park, is up for the green team award.

Winners will be unveiled at a ceremony in November.

Scottish Environment Protection Agency chairman Bob Downes, head of the judging panel, said: “The Vibes are a great chance to recognise business leadership in sustainable environmental investment.

“It is very encouraging to see so many of Scotland’s businesses leading the way and making a difference which will not only support the environment but also protect their bottom line.”
