Booming cashmere specialist Johnstons of Elgin is to open a flagship store in the heart of the Scottish capital’s luxury shopping quarter.
The new shop, in Multrees Walk, Edinburgh, is the latest move in the Moray-based firm’s continuing UK and international expansion, which has seen it launch outlets in high-end department stores Harrods, Berlin’s Kadewe and Joyce in Hong Kong.

Johnstons, which recently announced a 59% year-on-year leap in pre-tax profits to £9.9 million for 2017 and growth in sales of 7.3% to £73.9m, launched its first flagship store in New Bond Street, London, three years ago.
George McNeil, managing director of the company’s retail division, said: “Looking ahead to 2019 with strong growth behind us, this Edinburgh flagship store is another stepping stone in cementing the Johnstons of Elgin legacy through retail.
“Our new retail experience located in Multrees Walk will offer a unique customer experience which draws inspiration from our manufacturing roots.
“It will target the domestic Edinburgh market whilst welcoming international visitors to Scotland’s capital”.
Founded in 1797 and owned by just two families since, Johnstons operates mills in Elgin and Hawick in the Scottish Borders, and employs more than 1,000 people.
Due to open next Easter, the new two-storey store will join top retail brands including Harvey Nichols, Burberry and Louis Vuitton in the upmarket shopping area just off the east end of Edinburgh’s Princes Street.
