The strong line-up of speakers taking shape for a business breakfast at Ardoe House Hotel, near Aberdeen, later this month includes one of the region’s top dealmakers.
Colin Welsh is now international partner at US-based SCF Partners following an 18-year stint at Simmons & Company International (SCI).
Brought up in Aberdeen, Mr Welsh attended Hazlehead Academy before studying economics, accountancy and law at Aberdeen University.
He trained as a chartered accountant with EY and, after spells in the London and Aberdeen offices of Touche Ross (now Deloitte), established the Aberdeen office of RMD in 1987. RMD became a highly successful independent accountancy and corporate finance firm which was eventually acquired by Deloitte.
In 1999, Mr Welsh was invited to join US-based SCI to set up an Aberdeen office.
As head of international energy investment banking, he built the firm’s activities outside of North America.
He has been at the heart of many of the north-east’s biggest business deals, while he also led the campaign to fund the construction of a Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre in Aberdeen.
The May 28 event, organised by The Press and Journal, will also feature NovaBiotics chief executive Deborah O’Neil, and Graeme Sheils, a senior audit and assurance partner in the Aberdeen office of Deloitte.
