An Aberdeen firm’s efforts to showcase cutting-edge technologies on the Mariner oilfield, east of Shetland, and help recreate a legendary tennis match have won it a clutch of awards.

Digital media production company Signal2Noise said yesterday it had scooped a “gold” in the 2020 Remi Awards.

The Remis – named after American painter, illustrator, sculptor and writer Frederic Remington – are usually a highlight of the Annual WorldFest-Houston Film Festival.

This year’s festival has been postponed because of Covid-19, with the full list of Remi winners from among 4,500 entries due to be published whenever it takes place.

It is believed to be the oldest independent film and video festival in the world.

Signal2Noise won gold for its film Mariner: A Digital Frontrunner, which was commissioned by Norwegian energy firm Equinor to promote its commitment to innovation and digital technology.

The film was shot on location, in Aberdeen and offshore on the Mariner platform.

Signal2Noise said it had also won awards as part of the team behind an innovative event recreating the classic final between Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe in the 1980 Wimbledon tennis tournament.

The project scooped gold and silver gongs in the creative event of the year and game changer categories respectively in the UK marketing industry’s 2020 Campaign Experience Awards.

Wimbledon Rematch 1980 used actors, dancers, music and newsreel to recreate the tense centre-court showdown between ice-cool Swede Borg and hot-headed American McEnroe.

Signal2Noise created all of the video content and large-scale projections that were required to deliver the immersive experience.

Jamie Baikie, senior producer at the company, said: “2020 has turned everyone’s plans upside down. These awards provide a wonderful morale boost. Even though we can’t all work together physically, we’ll keep striving to produce creative award-winning work”.
