Dons a good fit for new sponsor

When Aberdeen’s previous sponsor Team Recruitment announced it was not renewing its six year partnership with the club Saltire Energy chief executive Mike Loggie was first in the queue to take the company’s place.

Loggie, who is also patron of north-east charity Befriend a Child, has been a keen supporter of local sporting and charitable initiatives and the Dons was a high profile target.

He said: “When we heard there was an opportunity to become the official sponsor of the club we were keen to take over. It’s a prestigious title and allows us a great chance to strengthen our involvement with the club.

“Saltire Energy has supported the youth teams at the club for a number of years and we view this move as a natural progression.”

Saltire Energy established the Saltire in the Community’ programme in 2008 to support local initiatives that would primarily benefit young people.

In addition to the Dons the company is already involved with The Paul Lawrie Foundation, Saltire Energy Sports for Schools, University of Aberdeen Sporting Scholarships and Curling for Schools.

Joining a company with a similar focus to its own was also a factor in Loggie’s decision to get involved at Pittodrie.

Loggie, whose firm was established in 1986 and has its headquarters in Portlethen, said: “I am a fan of the club and it’s involvement in the community is a strategy reflective of our own our own commitment to the local area.

“It’s exciting to be part of this journey and hopefully there is more success to come following the League Cup win of last season.”
