Bmi regional’s air link between Aberdeen and Oslo was used by 15,000 people in its first year.

The route launch at the end of October 2013 delivered the first direct service from Aberdeen to the Norwegian capital at the time and cut journey times between the cities for the energy industry.

Bmi regional chief executive Cathal O’Connell said: “Our service has provided a major boost to business and leisure connectivity for the economies of Aberdeen and Oslo.

“The route has been a huge success, carrying almost 15,000 passengers in its first year.

“There were no direct flights between these thriving city regions when we launched this route a year ago.

“Demand from the oil and gas industry and dialogue with key operators was fundamental to our decision to launch.”

He added: “The Aberdeen-Oslo route is an example of the direct links that the energy business needs.

“This route is at the heart of our Aberdeen network, supported by our local operations and engineering teams.”

Bmi regional also operates flights from Aberdeen to Bristol, Manchester, Norwich and Esbjerg in Denmark as part of a scheduled network spanning eight countries across Europe.

The Aberdeen-based airline employs more than 400 staff and operates an 18-strong fleet of Embraer jet aircraft.
