Flybe and Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong tie-up

Flybe shares increased in value 16% yesterday.

Regional airline Flybe has unveiled another codeshare deal, giving north and north-east passengers bound for Hong Kong more choice.

Instead of flying through existing hubs such as London, Amsterdam or Paris, they can now also travel to HK on a through ticket – and without having to retrieve their luggage part-way through their journey – with Flybe and Cathay Pacific via Manchester.

The new codeshare comes into effect on Monday and will indirectly link Hong Kong with three Scottish airports – Aberdeen, Inverness and Edinburgh – four days a week.

Bookings can be made on the Cathay Pacific website or through travel agents.

Flybe chief commercial officer Paul Simmons said: “Our new codeshare agreement with Cathay Pacific is another exciting development.

“This new one stop to China service reinforces our commitment to provide one stop to the world connections for customers in the UK regions.”

Cathay Pacific chief operating officer Rupert Hogg added: “This new agreement comes at the perfect time as we will be launching a four-times-weekly service between Hong Kong and Manchester on December 8.

“The code-share flights with Flybe will provide our passengers with greater choice and ease of connection to different cities within the UK from Hong Kong via Manchester.”

Flybe’s latest partnership builds on existing codeshare deals with Aer Lingus, Air France, British Airways, Eithad, Finnair and KLM.

The Aer Lingus codeshare, announced just last month, gave passengers flying from Inverness different options for travelling to destinations across the US and Canada via Dublin.

Flybe operates from all the major Scottish airports and smaller ones in the Highlands and islands through a franchise deal with Paisley-based Loganair.
