Aberdeen-based information technology (IT) firm Dynamic Edge has acquired Inverness rival Alchemy Plus Business Solutions to create what it says is one of the largest independent IT support businesses in the north and north-east.

Combined, the companies turn over £2million a year and employ 26 people.

An additional two people are being sought to bring the Inverness team up to 10.

Alchemy will continue to operate under its own name and from its existing premises in Seafield Road.

Its major shareholder was Peter Swanson, with his son, Alain, and Ian Joy also holding stakes.

None of the trio is involved with the business following its takeover for an undisclosed sum.

Peter Swanson, who is now focusing on other interests, including his role as operations director at Ross County Football Club, said: “The deal was completed relatively quickly and is great news for both businesses.

“Dynamic Edge is a strong, innovative business that wants to build on our success locally.”

Dynamic Edge, founded in 2009, now plans to tender for a series of projects across the north, supported by both its Aberdeen and Inverness operations.

The company’s managing director, Stuart Winterburn, said: “The purchase of Alchemy is an ideal fit for us as we look to broaden our reach across the north.

“We have ambitious plans and wouldn’t rule out additional acquisitions in future as we look to capitalise on our reputation for service and delivery.”

Dynamic Edge chief executive Rob Hamilton added: “We’re delighted with the deal.

“There are a burgeoning number of technologies out there that can help businesses and we see huge potential in Inverness and the surrounding area.”
