Stars of north-east trades honoured at Pittodrie

Talented tradespeople and business success were recognised at the 2015 North East Trade Awards last night.

Around 330 guests attended the dinner and award ceremony in the Richard Donald Stand at Aberdeen Football Club’s Pittodrie Stadium to celebrate the cream of the crop in north-east trades.

Golf star Paul Lawrie was meant to join them and present at least one of the awards, but he was forced to cancel due to illness.

A record number of applications were received for the latest edition of the annual accolades, which showcase the knowledge, experience and integrity of the areas’ trades businesses and the people behind them.

Jane Bruce of Peterhead roofing and joinery firm John G. Baird was presented with an honour for outstanding contribution, while the company itself was named trades employer of the year.

Ms Bruce gave up a teaching career to run the family business following her father’s death.

Other winners last night included tradesman of the year Norman Anderson of Peterkin Homes and apprentice of the year Liam Bruce of Scotia Homes.

FM Construction came away with the best trades business award, while GutterZ was recognised for health and safety and AD Heating for customer service.

The home improvement interior and exterior awards went to Oh Sew Perfect and Papillon Designs and Landscaping respectively.

Mark Kennedy Heating Solutions was honoured for best use of innovation and Ewen Electrical as best new business.

Darren Ross, director at awards organiser Xcite Media, said: “It was a privilege to attend last night’s award ceremony and witness the vast talent right here in the north-east of Scotland.

“The judging panel had an incredibly tough time choosing the winners…as the standard of the finalists across all categories was exceptional. Our winners are a credit to the industry and highlight the excellent work being done in the trades sector.”
