North-east rapeseed oil producer wins £100,000 Aldi deal

A north-east rapeseed oil producer has struck a deal to supply Aldi worth £100,000.

Mackintosh of Glendaveny, which produces cold-pressed rapeseed oil at the family farm near Peterhead, is supplying Aldi’s own-label “Specially Selected” brand oil, on shelves now across the value retailer’s 65 Scottish stores.

Mackintosh of Glendaveny has been producing extra virgin and cold pressed rapeseed oil since 2009. This is the family business’s first deal with the German-owned Aldi.
Gregor Mackintosh, owner of Mackintosh of Glendaveny, said: “I first had the idea to produce rapeseed oil in Aberdeenshire when I was studying at the Scottish Agricultural College and recognised a gap in the market for this healthy product. To have our rapeseed oil on Aldi’s shelves, just a few years later, is a significant achievement.
“We look forward to continuing to work with Aldi to bring our taste of Aberdeenshire to Scotland and beyond over the coming months.”
Richard Holloway, managing director for Aldi in Scotland, said: “Rapeseed oil is continuing to grow in popularity and it’s important to us to source a home-grown version of this product for our customers in Scotland.
“Working with the best suppliers in the country is a priority for us and we are continually looking for the best quality Scottish produce to stock in our stores at everyday low prices.”
