A popular presenter of hard hitting business news on breakfast television has been revealed as the host of the 2016 Gold Awards.
Steph McGovern, who has reported on business and finance from around the world – from international summits to small business success stories – will join revellers at the Press and Journal’s Gold Awards, held in association with Aberdeen Asset Management.
The announcement comes as the Press and Journal announce that the deadline for entering the awards has been extended a few days.
The deadline for entering the awards’ seven categories is now midnight on 29 June.
In all, eight prizes will be presented at the 2016 ceremony in September. The categories are: large company of the year; small company of the year; best employer; innovation award; emerging industry leader; new energy award; and entrepreneurial awards. A further Hall of Fame accolade will be decided by the event’s illustrious panel of judges.

Some of Aberdeen’s best known business leaders have joined the judging panel, including Rita Marcella, dean of Aberdeen Business School at Robert Gordon University (RGU), Malcolm Webb, former head of Oil and Gas UK; and Alan Dick, vice president at Simmons & Co. Press and Journal energy editor Jeremy Cresswell, and Rita Brown, editor of the newspaper’s sister website Energy Voice, are also on the panel.

“We’ve revamped the categories, introducing best small business, collaboration and our first ever renewables award, as well as simplifying the entry process. There’s no doubt this past year has been challenging, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been without its own success stories.
“The Gold Awards celebrate the North Sea and surrounding region’s resilience and fortitude even in the face of adversity, and also serves as a platform to remind of us what’s still to come.

Ms McGovern is an established part of the BBC Breakfast team.
During the financial crash she was the lead producer of financial news, working with then Business Editor Robert Peston at the forefront of the award-winning coverage of the credit crunch and banking crisis. Broadcasting stints include presenting on 5Live, Radio 4 and on the Chris Evans show on Radio 2.
She launched her own children’s TV show looking for the next generation of entrepreneurs, Pocket Money Pitch on CBBC. She is also the co-host of a new BBC One prime time show Shop Well For Less.
