One of the UK’s top photographers is to have some of his work featured in a campaign to help save the world’s oceans from destructive fishing practices.

John Swannell, known best for his royal portraits and commissions, including the 2004 Christmas card for Tony and Cherie Blair, as well as his pictures of a host of celebrities, has agreed to contribute to the Fish Love photographic collections

Fishlove was set up in 2009 by Brighton restaurateur Nicholas Rohl and actress Greta Scacchi to raise awareness of unsustainable fishing practices in some parts of the world.

Since then, the Fishlove images have succeeded in bringing the campaign message to the front covers and pages of magazines worldwide.

The collections currently include work by Alan Gelati, Denis Rouvre and John “Rankin” Waddell.

Celebrities featured include Sir Ben Kingsley, Dakota Blue Richards, Emilia Fox, Jerry Hall, Lenny Henry, Richard E Grant, Terry Gilliam, Michael Gambon and Gillian Anderson.

They are all pictured naked, with their modesty protected by examples of endangered marine species.

Visitors to Fish Love exhibitions include European Union Fisheries Commissioner Maria Damanaki, who said the “stop overfishing” message was central to the EU’s new Common Fisheries Policy.
