Great Britain international discus thrower Kirsty Law showed her preparations for next month’s British championships are going well by producing a brace of good performances at meetings on Jersey.
The Inverness Harriers club member threw 57.67m in her first outing to finish second behind her training partner, Olympian Jade Lally, who won with 58.54.
It is the furthest Law has thrown since 2012 when she set her PB 57.79.
The Loughborough-based athlete, who has won the Scottish title on a record 12 occasions, followed that with a throw of 57.07, despite suffering from a slight groin strain, in the second meeting.
Meanwhile, north athletes were in fine form when Scotland’s first major open graded track and field meeting since the easing of lockdown restrictions took place at Meadowmill, East Lothian.
Alexander Mackay (Inverness Harriers) achieved a massive PB in the discus when throwing 45.09m after also setting a lifetime best of 13.54 in the shot put.
His younger brother Alister also enjoyed a fine competition with PBs of 39.53 (discus) and 6.20 (long jump).
Nairn’s multi events specialist Will Hodi was another athlete to notch a double PB with a time of 14.60sec in the 100m hurdles and a throw of 10.19 in the shot.
Elgin-based Tamsin Fowlie (Aberdeen AAC) put in solid performances at under-17 level in the 60m (8.19) and 150m (19.27) while, in the under-15s, Stroma Fraser (Inverness Harriers) recorded 2:31.20 for 800m and 12.50 for 75m hurdles.
Under-13 runner Banchory Stonehaven AC’s Luc Macleod smashed his previous best time in the 75m hurdles, clocking 13.00 compared with his previous best of 14.43. He followed that with a 150m personal best of 20.58 and also recorded 8.72 for 60m.
