The chief executive of Aberdeen Asset Management has become one of 60 individuals who have been elected to become Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE).
Created in 1783 by Royal Charter for “the advancement of learning and useful knowledge”, the RSE has around 1,600 members. The body also said that HRH The Duke of Cambridge was also elected to become an RSE Royal Honorary Fellow.
Others on the list include broadcaster Kirsty Wark and crime author Val McDermid. Six academics from the University of Aberdeen were also elected, including David Benson, Peter Duff, Stefan Brink, Philip Hannaford, Jane Reid and Doerthe Tetzlaff.
Mr Gilbert, who recently took up a role as senior governor of the Aberdeen university court, said: “To be made a fellow of the RSE is huge honour and I look forward to doing my bit to ensure its continued success.”
The aim of the charitable body is “to play a leading role in the development of a modern enlightenment that will enable Scotland to contribute significantly to addressing the global challenges facing humanity in the 21st Century”.
