VIDEO: New hi-tech hub plans to drive digital engagement in Aberdeen

Opportunity North East (One) has opened its £1.5 million digital and entrepreneurship “hub” in the heart of Aberdeen.

Robert Gordon University (RGU)’s old administration building on Schoolhill has been transformed through a project led by One, the private sector economic development body backed by Sir Ian Wood, in partnership with CodeBase – the UK’s largest technology start-up incubator – and RGU.

One’s digital and entrepreneurship board marked the official opening of One Tech Hub by holding its latest meeting in the 20,000sq ft facility, which offers a mix of hot-desking, co-working and office space for digitally focused businesses. It is also home to RGU’s Start-Up Accelerator, which supports teams of students, staff and recent alumni from the university and North East Scotland College to develop new businesses through training, mentorship and investment.

RGU will soon be launching a Creative Accelerator at One Tech Hub as part of efforts to further boost a growing cultural sector in the region.

Sir Ian, One’s chairman, said: “One Tech Hub will act as the focal point to accelerate the creation of digital businesses in north-east Scotland, support our key industries to embrace digital solutions to achieve growth, and enhance our entrepreneurial environment to support company creation and scale-up. This is crucial to achieving our vision of north east Scotland becoming a global hub for people and businesses that want to engage with the industrial digital economy.”
