Around 60 north-east students have benefited from an exclusive careers event hosted by the Robert Gordon University (RGU).
The event, held at the university’s Riverside East campus, saw members of staff from Aberdeen-based recruitment specialist Right People offer expert advice to final-year undergraduate and postgraduate IT students.
The company was represented by Craig Buchan and Shaun Windram, who delivered a presentation providing career advice and practical tips on how students could gain more interviews and secure their first job in the industry
after graduation.
Shaun, associate director at Right People, said: “We were delighted to be involved in the event, which gave the company a great opportunity to meet and interact with a number of talented young people.
“It’s crucial that businesses engage with the student community in Aberdeen to help bridge the gap between education and the world of work.”
Craig, recruitment consultant at Right People, said: “It proved to be a great opportunity to offer IT students some expert advice on how they can get their foot on the career ladder.
“As a recent graduate from RGU, it was clear the practical benefits that this event brought to those who attended.”
Organised by RGU’s School of Computing Science and Digital Media along with the university’s career service, the event also involved speakers from IT services firm Atos and oil majors ConocoPhillips and Shell. This was followed by a question-and-answer session and informal networking.
Professor Ian Allison, Head of the School of Computing Science and Digital Media, said: “The event proved to be a great success and we would like to thank all the expert speakers for taking the time out of their busy schedules to engage with the students.
“It is events like these that help to ensure RGU’s graduate employability remains among the best in the UK and we very much value the close links that we have with employers and the benefits this brings for our graduates when they start to forge their careers.”
