More than 40 university buildings across Aberdeen will welcome visitors this weekend as part of the north-east’s annual Doors Open Day.
Aberdeen University will throw open the doors of dozens of its best-known buildings, including the dental school, zoology museum, the sports village and the £57million Sir Duncan Rice library.
Visitors to the dental school at Foresterhill on Saturday will be given tours of the modern clinical skills suite and laboratories.
The aim of the day is to allow people to explore buildings they may not otherwise visit, and to get them to appreciate the city’s architectural heritage.
Chris Croly, secretary of Aberdeen’s Doors Open Day organising committee, said there was more to see than ever this year.
He said: “With a record number of buildings opening their doors, this year looks sure to be the best yet.
“Doors Open Day remains one of the most popular days in Aberdeen which really does offer something for everyone, from a chance to explore the Freemasons Hall to a visit to Frederick St Community Health and Care Village.
“This year we are really thankful to our sponsors for making this event possible, principally the University of Aberdeen alongside Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen City Heritage Trust and Aberdeen Inspired.”
Elsewhere in the Granite City, the Music Hall will also be throwing open its doors to the public.
With the building due to be refurbished, visitors can enjoy one last look at the landmark before the changes.
A free bus will be running from Marischal College between 10am-3pm to transport people to the numerous buildings open for viewing.
A children’s photography competition will also be running in King’s College, with youngsters being challenged to identify buildings from pictures for the chance to win prizes.
